Photo of ABBOTTS RUN, RHODE ISLAND
ABBOTTS RUN, RHODE ISLAND

The granite barrel-vaulted arch bridge was built by the Providence & Worcester in 1874 to carry a branch from Valley Falls to the Wilkesbarre Pier. The arch is 40 by 20 feet with a 10 foot fill. It was in use when I photographed it but the growth on the double track width of the bridge hides the track. It was on a New Haven RR line when I lived in the area but now a P&W line once again. It is located where Abbotts Run joins the Blackstone River in the background.
