The Rhode Island DOT, which now owned most branch lines in Rhode Island, contracted with Amtrak to sever the line to East Providence. Shortly thereafter, Amtrak built a new station that bent the main line about one-quarter mile away from Union station, between Orms and Atwells Interlockings. Ca. 1984.
