Where's Billy Joel?

This 1,250 foot draw bridge spans the CT River between Middletown and Portland, CT. Built in 1873, this bridge supported the Air Line, the first major route linking New York and Boston. Originally run by the New York and Boston Railroad, this bridge is in little use as it serves only a few industries in Portland. About 1/4 mile east of the river, the line ends at Rte. 66, where it was abandoned in 1964. This bridge was featured in Billy Joel's music video, "River of Dreams" in the early '90's.
