Photo of Overpass to be rebuilt
Overpass to be rebuilt

If you notice that there are utility wires spanning the MBTA track just North of Anderson RTC together with what remains of a bridge abutment. Over 25 years ago the New Boston St overpass, a narrow wooden structure, was burned to the ground by vandals. In 08/2006 state funds became available for the rebuilding of this bridge linking Woburn and Wilmington, MA. The siding on the right is presently truncated just behind the photographer and is the future connection to the Woburn Wilmington Transrail Facility if the NIMBYS don’t prevail. When Anderson RTC was built they provided a third, freight bypass track, which this siding connects to.

For those unaware the Anderson Station is named after the Anderson family whose class action lawsuit against various Woburn chemical companies for leukemia deaths of young children in the North Woburn area and was the basis for a movie "A Civil Action" with John Travolta.

Anderson RTC is built on top of one of the nations largest superfund site that has been securely capped and sealed. The parking lot at Anderson is higher than the track not due to design, but due to the height necessary to seal off this massive holding pond.
