St Johnsbury Rail ExcursionsView looking north from St Johnsbury to Newport. I was supposed to go on an excursion north to West Burke but it was cancelled due to track conditions, so I rode south to Barnet instead.
In its day, St Johnsbury was a very active rail hub, with trains arriving from all directions. The railroads which operated out of here included the Canadian Pacific/Boston & Maine, Maine Central, and the St J & Lake Champlain. Today, the east/west lines are dormant (the west line is abandoned), and the Washington County Railroad operates the north/south line.
