Photo of Quonset Point RI
Quonset Point RI

French built track equipment passes time in the Seaview yard. Quonset Point, North Kingston RI

This rusty orange piece of track equipment was the original Amtrak track-laying machine. A man died in the 1980s when he was caught up in the works. It was taken out of service and essentially abandoned at Quonset. The major problem was that there were no cut-off switches outside the machine where anyone could shut it down.
That has changed with the current crop of TLMs.

For this information, Thank you to
Leo King, retired Amtrak train director and block operator, and former
Davisville tower op.
