Woodstock RR Right of Way and BridgeThe Woodstock Railroad connected White River Junction with Woodstock, VT, 13 miles. Built in 1874 and abandoned in 1933. US Route 4 is basically constructed on the right of way for much of the distance between these two towns. The highway bridge over Queechee Gorge is the actual railroad bridge enlarged for two lanes. The Rockefellers had a hand in the railroad construction and often ran their private car up from NYC. There were even plans to extend the railroad west to Rutland, but cooler heads prevailed.
