subway cars RIP

Like beached dead whales, the last few of the heavyweight rapid transit cars built in 1928 for the Boston Elevated's Cambridge-Dorchester subway (as the Red Line was then known) were scrapped in 1970 at PC's South Boston yard. They had been replaced by the Pullman "Blueliners" seven years earlier, in 1963, but had survived in storage.

Photographed by Tom Nelligan, March, 1970.
Added to the photo archive by Tom Nelligan, December 6, 2017.
