The changing of the guard.
Negative, scanned only recently. Again, the last coach consist of the evening rush, on the Needham Branch, making its return to Boston. From calendar and fixed events, the date would be 6/29, 6/30 or 7/1. Monday Tuesday or Wednesday. Its likely that on the out bound lap, it had two hood units instead of the usual single. The reverse move from the Heights "tailed back" at Needham Junction as usual. At that point the hood units were cut off and headed into the engine track. They were replaced by the two 0700s, which usually laid over, and completed the run to Boston. Decades later I learned New Havens 0700s made their last runs on the Needham Branch and that end of Old Colony service, 6/30/1959, enabled the road to retire the last of the class.
