PLLX (Winnipesaukee Scenic) 302 at Laconia Station

Here's a platform view of the Plymouth & Lincoln's GP7 temporarily tied down at the very historic Laconia Passenger Station. The Crew was in search for a quick lunch, as they were on the return trip to Meredith after dropping 6 empties in Lochmere for New England Southern to pick up.

This large historic station was built in 1892, designed by NYC architect Bradford Gilbert. Even as trains don't depart from Laconia, to Concord, Lowell, and North Station, the station thrives today as home for Prescott's Florist, Service Credit Union, and other local businesses. The Winnipesaukee Scenic has run special passenger excursions out of Laconia over the years.

Many rail fans and local residents were taking in the uncommon sight of seeing and hearing the sound of an almost 70 year old locomotive idling in front of the station.

Even though train movements through Laconia are infrequent, the tracks are fully maintained and serve as a connection to the national rail network for the Winnipesaukee Scenic and Hobo Railroads, the Lincoln Shops, and the Lafayette Dinner train operations. The first connection is made at Lochmere with the New England Southern Railroad, the second connection is in Concord, via Pan Am Railways.

<BR>Great to see this first generation "Geep" on the move !

It's made time magazine, WOW, but nothing in the local rags. VRS is acquiring NES, pending approval from the NHDOT and STB, the transaction should be complete by the end of June!
