Columbus Day Weekend in the NEK started out "Fall for St. Johnsbury Foliage Trains along with a big festival in DT St. Jay. Four sold out daytime excursions, and a sunset fundraiser dinner train ran from St. Jay south to McIndoes Falls & back. VRS used 405 on the south end, three "Green Fleet" coaches and GP38-2, VRS 201 on the north end.

I'm very glad the Vermont Rail System crew left the Rutland and the "Green Mountain Gateway" magnets on the 405, providing more of an authentic look to this historic locomotive. The magnets were applied in honor of a Trains Magazine private charter, several weeks ago.

This Schenectady built ALCO RS1 was built new for the Rutland Railroad in 1951. The 405 is probably the most well known & photographed locomotive in New England, perhaps beyond. A locomotive that has never left it's home rails.

GMRC 405 is a true survivor.
