Welding

Welding bumps and scoring out of diamonds is a never-ending task on any railroad. These pieces of track structure take hard pounding when trains pass over the frog sections. In this case, the Dorchester Branch sees a Readville Shuttle every half-hour during peak periods, and hourly otherwise. Add to that CSX's WARE-20, from Readville's 2 Yard, whatever extras come along, and the Readville Switcher, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's daily shuffle from Readville to Southampton Street Yard and then over to Somerville and return.
