On lease to the New England Central Railroad, RPMX 9431 and RPMX 9426 are stopped at the North Elm Street crossing in St. Albans VT at 12:30 pm. Awaiting their replacement, the crew has their lunch boxes set out on the "front porch" of RPMX 9431. When the new crew comes aboard, they will take train 324 (the daily southbound freight) to Brattleboro VT. Today's locomotive consist is very unusual. It is composed of a pair of leased GP-40-2Ws, most commonly seen on trains between St. Albans and Montreal. The NECR typically relies on SD-40s, supplemented by GP-38s, as motive power through central Vermont mainly to handle the grade at Roxbury Hill. Today, train 324 had a total of 57 cars.
