New Hampshire Northcoast GP-38-2 #3823 was originally built for Conrail in 1978 as # 8242 and acquired by Norfolk Southern in the Conrail breakup and renumbered 5371. It was acquired by Helms Leasing in 2003 and renumbered as 3823, leased to NHN in February 2004 and painted in NHN colors soon thereafter.
