Southern New England Ry. Trestle Ruins

After reading Larry Lowenthal's "Titanic Railroad" detailing the history of the Southern New England R.R., I decided to take a hike in the woods to stand atop the big fill at what was supposed the eastern approach to a 1200-foot long, 110-foot high curved trestle.

If this bridge were extant and operable today, a steam photo freight would lead to gridlock on the Mass Pike as photographers lined up to shoot the move.

To obtain a copy of Larry's excellent book, visit Branch Line Press's website.

When hiking around the east abutment, be respectful of the home owners on the west side of the right of way.
