New England Southern on the Northfield / Tilton Town Line

Meanwhile, north of Concord on the former Boston and Maine rails... New England Southern 2555 (SW1500) waits on the Winnipesaukee River Bridge by the Northfield / Tilton town line, The crew must flag this crossing, as there are no rail signals, but the traffic signals will eventually stop all traffic as the train slowly moves across Main Street.

The NEGS consist contains three empty open hoppers, and two loaded slurry tank cars bound for the 3M plant in the Lochmere section of Tilton.

Visitor Comments about this Photo:

When a train is in the circuit and shunting, a push button on a post on either side is interlocked with the traffic signals. After one of the crew pushes the button, in a few seconds they all turn red and a flashing light then alerts the train crew that all vehicle traffic has a red light.
