In the 1950s, Alco PAs belonging to the New Haven and New York Central were a common sight at South Station, but they vanished as FL9s and E8s took over. From October 1977 to October 1978 these elegant machines returned in the form of the Delaware & Hudson's four units, leased to help the MBTA through a power shortage. In this photo D&H 19 prepared to depart for Framingham with an evening rush hour local made up for former NH coaches.

Photographed by Tom Nelligan, January, 1978.
