GE 70 Tonner, Number 9 and train pass East Claremont on the way to do work at Newport, NH. The route followed the Sugar River, crossing it twice via covered bridges, which still exist. After three years of cut backs, track went only as far as the few industries east of Newport Center. By the next year GE 44 Tonners would be the primary power on the Newport turn.
