Lowell trolley, when new

In May 1984 the Lowell National Historical Park took delivery on a pair of 15-bench open cars built by Gomaco as replicas of the Eastern Massachusetts Street Railway cars that once ran in the city. In 2018, at age 34, they have now been in service longer than their prototypes. Car 1601 posed on the trestle over the Merrimack Canal during its second month of service.

Photographed by Tom Nelligan, June 23, 1984.
