The railroad has run its mainline trains early and set others back, in order to concentrate its resources on snow clearance. This was not spurred by a recent storm. The "event" was just enough relief from sub-zero temperatures, that fine grain/granular snow would stick to itself sufficiently, to make plowing worth while.
