The 0947 Soldiers OnAlco S-1 #0947 in the New Haven's waning days continues to do what she was built for. She is working the yards and sidings in South Boston. I believe this was the Congress Ave. grade crossing. You can also see the gateman and his shelter for the manual gates at this crossing.Tracks in the foreground headed toward the large yard just to the south of Commonwealth Pier. The yards and most of the freight customers are gone yielding to the soaring values of land around Boston Harbor and the demise of carload freight. This is now part of the Seaport District.
