Look What The Coal Train Brought In

Back in the days of bigger carbon footprints, you could always look forward to the Bow coal train. I did not record the power on the head end, it was probably Conrail, but about 100 identical Pittsburg and Lake Erie hoppers later with that evenly spaced "ta-ting-ta-ting" sound over the nearest rail joint, this beautiful P&LE caboose rolls past, complete with a fancy herald and just a bit of coal dust grit in the air following it. Seen here at Sandy Pond Road crossing in Ayer, MA.
