Camped at East Portal, sleep is punctuated by the seemingly endless and noisy procession of trains into and out of the Hoosac Tunnel. By sunrise it gets too quiet. The sun gets ever higher, but instead of a hoped for eastbound, the first train shows up, working its way west.
