FI-1 MEC 5948 hustles East on Track 1 passing the MBTA's West Cambridge Maintenance Facility in Cambridge, MA. This was once the site of two freight yards on either side of the mainlines and also where the Lexington Branch connected with the Fitchburg Main. FI-1 is hauling 10 overweight loads for Rousselot in Peabody. MA as seen from the Alewife Parkway overhead bridge.

Visitor Comments about this Photo:

I'm very interested on how this train operates. So does it go down the MBTA Fitchburg line on the way to North Station then head north to Salem? I live near the Waverly t stop in Belmont, and did not believe that there was any freight action on that line. Am I wrong?

It's a very rare move.
