Photo of MBTA Franklin Branch double tracking progress - 3
MBTA Franklin Branch double tracking progress - 3

The final phase of double tracking will tackle the 4 miles between Walpole and Norwood Central. It will be interesting to see how the MBTA squeezes two tracks through the short Main St tunnel while preserving clearances for CSX freights as well as T trains. Perhaps it will be daylighted? Note track diverging to the left is the Framingham Secondary used by CSX freights while the line to the right runs to Mansfield and is currently hosting a commuter rail trial to/from the Gillette Stadium at Foxboro. Early ridership figures due to longer trip duration v. the nearby NE Corridor Providence line are not encouraging. Field of Dreams marketing doesn't always work.
