NEGS 2555 in Northfield Yard

This may be either the penultimate or final run for New England Southern Railroad 1.0 under their original ownership. In late April, it was announced and filed with the STB that Trans Rail Holding Company, parent company of Vermont Railway, would be forming a new class III railroad to be the freight operator on the state owned White Mountain Branch, called the Merrimack & Grafton Railroad Corp. This is all good.

But back to business, some stuff had to get cleared out of NEGS' and soon to be M&G's World HQ in Canterbury, like two cabooses (there's a blue caboose behind the red one) and a former CN "Super's Car" (far right). They also took out an empty at 3M (behind 2555). Here was the NEGS' shiny yellow SW1500 sitting on the main with the empty, the two cabooses on the station track, and the Super's Car was placed on the team track as shown. Next stop was Canterbury Yard to end the night.

Sounds like once the new company takes command, it will be more difficult for the Rail Trailers in the Laconia Area to have their way. Hope so.

Henry, as I like to say, "Those Rails that are layin' are stayin' !" Besides going against the State, any resolution to seek the removal of the rails throughout Laconia and beyond, is off the table. The Rail Trailers would have fought a herculean, expensive, and unwinnable battle to get the rails lifted. The current Laconia Mayor was able to see to the any removal of rails taken off the table, in turn, appointing a committee to see an alternative route where all parties can agree on to get the WOW Trail from Lakeport to Weirs Beach. There were other interests that did not want rails lifted besides the railroad. Currently, a large scale tie replacement project is underway on the White Mountain Branch, from Concord to Thornton, focusing on the lighter used parts of the branch.. Thornton to Meredith, Lakeport to Lochmere, and vital portions of New England Southern's tracks. No worries. The Winnipesaukee Scenic's operations are safe, the entire rail corridor is safe, and New England Southern 2.0 will be safe.
