Gardner MaWest bound freight with 4 GP9’s crossing over on to the 2 track to make a set off. This shot was taken on a hot 80 degree morning in July of 1985 from the old Elm St. bridge abutment. The crew stopped at what was then Mr. Donuts, as you can see the conductor is about to enjoy his fresh morning coffee. This very well might have been the last time for a lash up of pure GP9 power on the Fitchburg Division. Buy this time most trains had a mix of GP38’s and GP40-2’s. (6:00 am)
