AMTK Train 167 Looking a Little Different Leaving Kingston StationAMTK 645 (ACS-64) accelerates train weekend train 167 away from its stop at Kingston Station. I had a feeling when I saw this train that something was different, but it took a bit of time looking at the photos for the difference to register. Almost all NE Corridor trains use the rear pantograph to get power from the catenary. The raised front pan on the 645 here looks quite awkward, since the hinge at the rear makes it look like it would cup the wind, though it is a bit narrow to have much impact. I have looked well back on this site since I saw this train without finding another photo with the lead pantograph raised. I have no way of knowing why this lead pan is in use here; I presume the rear pan's contact plate with the overhead must need work, or perhaps some other part.
