A short runaround track in Concord, means unless it's a short train, they are going to be here for a little while. Late yesterday afternoon, with a good sized train, it took three runarounds to put 306 on the south end of this mixed train of Ciment Quebec loads and assorted empties collected from Bow and Concord customers.

<BR>This is the first 2022 appearance of 306 on "These NH Rails", last sighted in December 2021 with a good sized wreath on the nose. The worn out lettering adds character to 306's appearance IMHO. 306 was built in the heart of the "Summer of Love" in July 1967 as New York Central 3052. It retained the road number through Penn Central and Conrail ownership. This GP40 has been owned by Guilford/ Pan Am / CSX since November of 1995.

Just to give a few takes on what was happening in July 1967, The Beatles released "All You Need is Love".. There was no Led Zeppelin, quite yet.. Number One Pop Songs in July 1967 were "Windy" by the Association and "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" by Frankie Valli. Top-40 ruled on AM Radio.

Yet in 2022, we see this original 55 year old GP40 workhorse, still sounding strong, and moving these cars around with ease. Excellent horns on 306, too !
