A P&L and NEGS Live Handoff at Lochmere (Tilton NH)Here were three 1970's EMD end cab switchers at the Lochmere Siding in Tilton NH from Monday 7/31. This was a live handoff where the P&L Crew brought 5 privately owned assorted Budd RDCs from Meredith to the south end of their operating territory in Lochmere for the NEGS Crew to take south to their World HQ & Transload Yard in Canterbury.
The P&L Crew took to the siding, while the NEGS Crew went north of Silver Lake Road to tie onto the 5 Budds and run south.
It's not to often to see a SW1000, SW1001, and SW1500 all in one picture. While the SW1500 sold well, the SW1000 didn't, and the SW1001 found more buyers, and proved to be a better solution for tight clearances for industrial customers, with a lowered and curved cab, built like the older EMD switchers..
GMTX 1505 (SW1500) built for Southern Pacific in 1970.
P&L 1012 (SW1000) built for Burlington Northern in 1970
P&L 1590 (SW1001) built for the Reading in 1973.
P&L 1590 is probably one, if not the only, SW1001 that pulls tourist trains instead of freight.
GMTX 1505 was NEGS 2555.
