The former Penn Central and Conrail GP40s built around 1968 were the mainstay power of predecessor Pan Am Railways for many years. While many of the 300's have been scrapped, sold off, or several leased to Berkshire Eastern (345,350,381), some remained stored in Waterville awaiting their fate. MEC 307 & 316 are less than a handful GP40s still in service on CSX rails..305 & 315 are two more reported in-service, as of this writing.,.

Here was MEC 307 & 316, both built new for Penn Central in 1968 waiting by the Waterville Yard office (nice air conditioned work trailers). A local Crew hopped aboard and took these east, destination unknown. MEC 307 was the first 300 series GP40 to get the Pan Am paint.

Seems these days, the remaining 300's can be found around Waterville yard & working local jobs nearby..

Both the paint on 307 & 316 have aged well.
