L066 MEC 5966 Alongside Route 3A in BowHere was the L066 Crew taking a very late afternoon run into Concord with 4 empty hoppers. They were heading to grab 2 more empty utility pole cars in Concord, before running around.
The big 4000hp GE's have been used a lot more in 2024 on the Nashua Subdivision & the Hillsboro Branch. These GE's have excellent horns, and their deep sounding 7FDL16 engine "gurgles" provide plenty of notice before approaching, even pulling 4 empties. A much different sound & pitch than the EMD/GMD's.
This was taken alongside Route 3A in Bow, where the tracks parallel the road for a short distance. The Merrimack River is on the left side of the tracks. At this time of day, one would expect to see a steady flow of traffic moving through here.
The white nose on 5966 was painted at a time, when many of the patched or lined 'tattered' former CSX painted engines, Pan Am acquired had their yellow noses or even tails painted in red, green, white, pink, sky blue, blue, purple, gray primer, the correct colors of the Ukraine flag, and even a "Minion Eye"..
Now if 5958 or 5963, the two operating Pan Am painted B40-8s that CSX retained can get assigned to Nashua, that would be appreciated !
