P&L Northbound Equipment Move Extra

This small underpass at Winona Road in New Hampton, NH could easily be one of the Lakes Region's versions of "Storrow Drive" with that very low clearance, and on a sharp S curve too.

From 10/30/2024, here was the major equipment move north from Meredith, P&L 105 was the only engine online, putting all 1000 horses to work, pulling the dead-in-tow P&L 1186, the former B&M ALCO S3 (on S1 trucks), 3 Budd RDCs, 2 Lackawanna MU cars, and the P&L SW1001, the dead 1590, on the south end.

The Crew made it up the Ashland summit grade, and would tie down at Ashland Station for the night where the set was used for a special training and demonstration session that evening.

P&L 105 would be the main consistent power for the Granite State Scenic Railway's Santa Express and Journey to the North Pole charter trains that ran from Black Friday to the day before Christmas Eve.

The 105 was purchased new by the New Orleans Public Belt railroad in 1971. The SW1000 arrived on the P&L in September 2020, and repainted in the winter of 2021. This past season, it has been used everywhere on the system from Laconia to Lincoln.
