Whistler's Railroad - 1

A CSX freight train climbs the rugged east slope of the Berkshire Hills at Middlefield, Mass., on the CSX Boston Line (Boston & Albany) on Saturday, October 13, 2007. The view is from the Keystone Arch Trail,
the abandoned ROW of the Western Railroad. The
line was built in 1838-1841, and was surveyed and
engineered under the guidance of Major George Washington Whistler. The newer route, used by CSX today, was constructed as a bypass by the New York Central & Hudson River RR in 1912-1913. Photo by John Bazan.
