Which Tunnel is This?

Hawleyville, CT sports two abandoned tunnels within feet of each other. From research, one was built around 1871 and the newer one 1911, as made evident with the carving on the concrete. My only guess is there were two competing railroads. The older ran to Litchfield, the 1911 to Waterbury. This is the older tunnel, approx. 100 yards in length. Part of the New York and New England RR.
