Along the Route of the Springfield, Athol & Northeastern

Culvert likely dating to 1871 under the roadbed near the northeast shoreline of the Quabbin Reservoir, not far from Petersham. Line was abandoned in 1935; thereafter the Swift River Valley was cleared and flooded, though this area stayed dry. Utility poles from the B&A era lie nearby, where they were cut down in the late 30's.
