No Trains Coming Thru' Today

A major washout on the long-abandoned Shelburne Falls extension of the New Haven & Northampton Railroad. The line operated from 1881 to about 1923. A goodly portion of the old roadbed is now part of the Mahican-Mohawk trail, though some parts are now impassable. The washout seen here is between Bardwells Ferry (Shelburne) and Conway, Mass. A trolley line used to operate in the approximate area until the early 1920s. Very remote and rugged terrain in this area.
