Photo of Amtrak At State Line Tunnel
Amtrak At State Line Tunnel

Amtrak train 449 -the Boston section of the Lake Shore Limited- is seen bursting out of the twin tunnels at Canaan, NY. Today's train is led by the Amtrak engine No. 822 in Phase 3 heritage paint. The tunnel on the left was abandoned by Conrail around 1987 when they single-tracked this portion of the Boston & Albany. The bore on the right was added by the NYCRR in 1911. Both tunnels are just under 600 feet long.
