Rail less traveled

Abandoned right of way of the Hoosac Tunnel and Wilmington Railroad, just North of the Boston & Maine line, east of the Hoosac Tunnel entrance. Only a very small section of rail in the woods still existed when I took this photo in 2011. It has since be torn out of the woods and removed.

Damn! Why'd they tear it out?

I don't think Pan-am tore it out, it kind of looked like someone(s) went in there with small torches and cut it out, and pulled it out with a small truck. Probably scrap thieves is what I'm guessing.
