CSX Rebuild

CSX 1712 leads M426 this day as seen at the Sandy Pond Road crossing in Ayer. Looking a bit the throwback especially as it leads the wide cabs, these units are designated "SD-40E3", the"E" for Eco/Low Emission. I have heard them called Lego units perhaps referring to their angular look. It was the last of 13 units rebuilt from CSX EMD SD-40-2 engines at Progress Rail's Muncie, IN shops in 2017. CSX's press release at that time envisioned these units in yard service. Steve Demboske took a a better quality photo of this engine (see it on this site) while it was still coming up from Worcester and clued me in on its progress.
