This is 1186 after it has been changed from an S-3 (AAR trucks) to an S-1 (Blount trucks). In 1987 1186 (ex-B&M, ex-Wolfborough) was an S-3 as Hobo started up. I was the prime engineer that year as Eddie Clark was getting it going. It was a tireless workhorse and it was soon evident why the railroads switched from steam to diesel. Solid, conservative, proven technology.
