The B&M has stationed a block operator at Hastings station this day as a rail train is laying rail resulting in single track operations for the regularly scheduled trains. Hastings is the location of a hand thrown set of cross overs. To this date it remains a daily stop for trains. The old flag stop sif=gnal is still in place though not used. The Operator on duty this day is E. Bangs who is still a regular Towerman at Waltham.

Photographed by Bluebelly, August 30, 1980.
