CometThe Comet was a failed 1938 experiment for faster trains. By the time I took this photo, the train was relegated to local service between Boston and Providence, serving out its few remaining months. It was soon scrapped. It's my only Comet photo. The scene is just east of Union Station, Providence, on the steep hill. The train is en route to Boston. The tracks neares the camera are now Amtrak's route through Orms Interlocking and the "new" Providence station. In those days, it was a stub-ended freight yard. That dark discoloration is from the film being light-fogged.
