Maine Central - Lewiston Lower - MP 36.5

Ah, a little track work here. Now, there's a place for the flange somewhere here.
We did this quite a few times on the Lower Road in the Augusta area in particular. Many of the crossings needed a little attention but more did not. The only track of the 4 lines we rode on that were in good servicable condition was the Rockland Branch. It had new welded rail and was very smooth. All the other lines were in 'usable' condition for us but not for trains. The ties were old and rotten. All the rail was all there and it was in gauge almost everywhere. The Maine DOT is keeping the woods from taking over and they are keeping the ballast in place and brush under control.
