Maine Central - Lower Road

On June 3rd of this year I road the Maine Central Lower Road between the bridge at Brunswick to Augusta. It was a really great trip. Very good Maine summer weather after two days of not so good Maine summer weather on the Lewiston Lower and Rockland lines.

The Lower Road was a major section of the MEC. Signals like this one were located for each direction at about 2 mile intervals. This one is typical. It looked like it hadn't been operational for a couple of decades. Can anyone tell me when the signals were taken out of service? I suspect it was prior to the arrival of Guilford and the move of all traffic to the Back Road. /DL
