Island Pond RR Station and new footbridge

The new footbridge was built last year to replace the old one which was torn down many years ago. The old footbridge crossed 12 tracks and reached as far as the station. A former resident of Island Pond recalls placing oil or gasoline soaked rags in an old tire, setting it on fire and then and rolling it down the bridge from Mountain Street. It rolled to the steps and then bounced down them, gathering speed before running the length of Main Street, as motorists swerved to avoid it.
