Maine Central, Union Station, Bangor c1950

This picture was taken a couple of years before I was born by my father. That's my brother, John who was prodded, (so the story goes) into standing beside the locomotive long enough for this picture. The B&A used Union Station in downtown Bangor along with the MEC. I remember seeing my father off at this station on his way to Chicago on one of the last MEC passenger trains to depart the station. /DL

As I recall, this was a covered station with canopy over many tracks. When I was 2 or 3 I was offered to be in the cab of a gas-electric by the engineer there but I was scared to death that the exposed commutator and armature would eat me so I had to forcibly decline
