Maine Central Hermon Pond Siding c1910Here is a close up of the left side of the print. It looks like some sort of a lumber yard or small saw mill behind the tracks. Note the sudden drop in the center track. What's perplexing here is the balast for that track in the foreground doesn't look fresh, but like its been there for a while. Perhaps they've dug the ballast out from under this track further up the line to replace it with new gravel for better dranage. Sure would be interesting to see a series of pictures of these guys at work. The origional print was made from a large negative. It is quite sharp and crisp, although either the negative or print was slightly under exposed.
