Can I borrow your Geep?In the summer of 1996, Bay Colony was suffering from an acute power shortage. In August they borrowed Geep #1789 from sister railroad Cape Cod RR, for what was billed as a short-term loan. Many days later the Geep was still in trash service, prompting a terse exchange over the shared radio frequency. "We want it back tomorrrow, " one CCRR employee was overheard to say. "After all -- it's our engine!" The next day #1789 hauled the empty trash cars and one of BCLR's moribund Alco switchers to Yarmouth. The crew apparently spent a blasphemous afternoon trying to get the old girl to start, but she did, and while the Alco hauled the trash off-Cape, #1789 returned to the CCRR dinner train.
