Watching the local crawl to Weir Junction on the Dean Street Branch

Taunton, Massachusetts: Standing with a friend and waiting for the right moment to photograph as the local crawls to Weir Junction during the Summer of 1981. Conrail used a caboose for all of its locals on the Dean Street Branch, right up until they abandoned the line in 1982. On one hot, humid summer day, when asked if they had air conditioning in the caboose, the crewmember replied, "only with both doors open, with the train going forty miles per hour....". Taken with a 110 camera.

Photographed by Karl M. Dietzler, 1981.
Added to the photo archive by Karl Dietzler, April 17, 2006.
Railroad: Conrail.
